About Master Financial Partners
Josh Smith, the founder of Master Financial Partners, has been a business owner, a real estate investor, and a disrupter for over 15 years. Starting a business from nothing, Josh has been able to see nearly every business challenge as he went from just him and his son to over 150 employees that serviced over 6,000 customers per year with operations spanning 3 states. One of his last companies, Master Service Companies (formerly known as Master Dry) was a market leader in residential waterproofing and foundation repair. In August of 2019, Josh took an opportunity to sell that company to one of the largest companies in that industry. Josh has also been involved with real estate investing and has transacted over $20m in residential and light commercial investments.
If you research his story, you will learn that Josh and his wife Tracy are very committed to their faith and giving. They committed several years ago and set a max net worth for their family and committed to giving anything more than that away to make an impact in the lives of others. With the resources from just that last company sale, Josh founded the 4th Purpose Foundation with over $10m dollars. This foundation is focused on changing the lives of those who are incarcerated, helping them to become productive members of our society.
With the rest of the proceeds from the sale of that company, Josh started Master Financial Partners with the hopes of making strategic investments that would allow him to invest in Knoxville real estate and businesses, to then again take those profits and invest even more into organizations that help change the lives of others.
Through the use of opportunity zone investment, Master Financial Partners was founded to fuel a ‘lifetime of good’ through the 4th Purpose Foundation, while transforming communities around Knoxville, Tennessee.
Meet The Team
Josh Smith
FOUNDER, CEO
In just over a decade and a half, Josh Smith built a small service company into a $30 million enterprise with more than 180 employees as well as amassing a large number of real estate investments. Smith has also mentored countless other service businesses to help them experience some of the same success he built. But for a 5-year period before that, when he was just 21, he was incarcerated in a federal prison camp in Kentucky for his involvement in selling drugs.
Smith grew up in a single-mother household, lived in government housing for a time, and was sent away from his home at age 11 due to abuse. He was convicted of 7 felonies by the time he was 16 and he entered prison at age 21 as an 11th-grade dropout with no plans to exit it any differently than how he entered.
Instead, he found redemption through God and was guided by several highly educated white-collar criminals who he was able to learn from. Upon his release, the government housing his wife lived in was no longer available to them because of his status as a felon. He had to beg for his first job making $6 per hour.
Since exiting prison, Smith has spent the past 15 years actively involved in prison ministry and mentoring of those who have similar backgrounds to his. Smith has supported programs that provide hope, training, and reentry support for prisoners and their families who earnestly want a new life, including hiring and mentoring many felons. In June of 2019, he was named to Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee’s Criminal Justice Reinvestment Task Force. He and his wife of 23 years, Tracy, are now driven to reshape the reality for offenders and their families, from the time they enter the prison through their re-entry.
